Hazard and Risk Identification Records Removing hazards is a job best done by everyone. Prevent-IT! Office Safety HARI helps staff to become aware of workplace hazards, understand their risk potential and know how to deal appropriately with them. It encourages them to use their powers of observation and share information, promoting a culture of office safety.

HARI proactively supports management in achieving compliance with section 5 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations. It addresses the requirements of nine sets of laws and regulations governing office work:
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
  • Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) 2002
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

  • The weight of information is considerable. But HARI makes light work of providing it. As a risk prevention tool, it also makes short work of providing the required feedback. HARI, developed in association with Mersey Fire and Safety, indicates where staff should deal with problems themselves, in consultation with colleagues and where they should request specialist support.

HARI trains staff to identify and deal appropriately with hazards which can affect everyone. These include:
  • electricity supply
  • obstacles to free movement
  • slipping and tripping
  • ventilation
  • heaters and other fire hazards
  • reaching, lifting and moving
  • unshielded lighting
  • medical issues

  • After training, employees are competent to assess their own working environment. The questionnaire is simple to use. The Prevent-IT! intranet version's results administration system then takes the date and time-stamped self assessment results and automatically highlights problem areas across the organisation, by department and individually.

The Hazard and Risk Identification training, assessment and test module is also available without the requirement for an intranet delivery system.
